ETOP Enhanced Training Opportunities Program

Study Supports Joint Programs

The Association of Joint Labor/Management Educational Programs has been publicizing the results of a research study conducted by the American Society for Training and Development (ASTD) and theConference Board of Canada (the research division of the Conference Board, Inc., U.S., Canada, and Europe). The study took 16 months to explore different workplace skills programs and education facilities. The study found that that the most common training topics offer included professional, basic, and interpersonal skills. Most programs also offered career planning or counseling, information about education and training providers, and information about career opportunities. Findings support the fact that joint labor management educational programs enhance labor-management relations. The study also found that such programs significantly improve quality of work, and have a positive impact on employee retention and advancement opportunities. Joint workplace education programs harness the power of collaboration between unions and management to produce exceptional training results that benefit everyone involved.
